HARRISON, IDAHO -- On May 27, 2017, at 10 a.m., the 100 Year Fire Commemoration kicks off at Harrison City Park overlooking south Lake Coeur d'Alene. Volunteers from St. Maries Fire Protective District will be on hand with firefighting demonstrations and activities for kids and adults. They will bring their trucks and equipment, and turnouts for the public to try on so they can experience what it feels like to walk in a firefighter's shoes. Firemen will set a large custom doll house ablaze to demonstrate how opening doors and windows during a fire can have shocking unintended consequences. Also, people can compete in the bucket brigade, pose on a fire engine dressed like a firefighter, and cheer on the teams of the firefighter hose demo competition. The district will provide information about volunteer fire fighting opportunities, including the Junior Firefighter program.

The Harrison Chamber of Commerce is honoring volunteer firefighters from the St. Maries Fire Protection District this year to coincide with the fire district's 30th anniversary and the City of Harrison's 100 year commemoration of the inferno that destroyed most of the bustling mill town in 1917. There will be a ceremony on the city park stage at 10:30 a.m.
