If you seek a relaxing getaway, welcome to Harrison, Idaho, on the southeast shore of Lake Coeur d'Alene. This quaint and historic resort town has long been a favorite vacation destination for Inland Northwest families who enjoy its public docks, boat launch, shoreline campground, sandy beach and relaxed atmosphere. Spend the day tubing, fishing, kayaking and exploring numerous lakes and two rivers within a few miles of town. Then dance the night away on summer weekends at clubs that offer live music for your entertainment. There are several eateries, an historic museum, art gallery, bicycle shop, boat and kayak rental, playground and gift shopping opportunities all within a few blocks of the water.
On the Lake Coeur d'Alene Scenic Byway
If you're not a boater, point your car or motorcycle south on the beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene Scenic Byway (Hwy 97), a few miles east of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on I-90, or head south on SR-3 from the Rose Lake exit for a leisurely country drive to Harrison. Fuel up before you come because there are no service stations in this rustic berg.
Bike and Hike Area Trails
Harrison is a popular base for exploring the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, north Idaho's spectacular 72-mile rails-to-trails recreational trail. Cycle or roller blade to historic Heyburn State Park, just seven miles south and spend a day hiking the trails. Or check out the Thompson Lake Wildlife Refuge on the town's northeast border to view and photograph osprey, eagles, white swans and other wildlife. For a full day trip, you can ride the trail to Idaho's oldest standing building at the Coeur d'Alene's Old Mission and museum near Cataldo, about 30 miles from town.
Plenty of Lodging and Camping
For lodging in Harrison, there is a hospitable motel with spectacular lake views, two bed and breakfast accommodations, and a great selection of vacation rentals. Alternately, you can bring your RV or tent and camp in the heart of the action, or stay at Bell Bay Campground just a few miles north of town. Harrison draws crowds on weekends and during special events scheduled from spring to winter, but it has a quiet side as well, making it a great destination for a reclusive getaway during the off season.
